If you run WinXP Pro as a gaming comp. You can either disable the services manually
or do as I did. I simply made a script that stops the services I dont need.
So, here is the script I currently run. Actually there are two ;9

net stop alerter
net stop spooler
net stop "Print Spooler"
net stop "Distributed Link Tracking Client"
net stop "Help and Support"
net stop "Messenger"
net stop nla
net stop "System Event Notification"
net stop "Verisign Updater"
net stop "WebClient"
net stop fsma
net stop "Computer Browser"
net stop "Cryptographic Services"

These services is like …. well – you can be almost 100% sure you dont need them while playing. Now for the real heavy ones.

net stop "Logical Disk Manager"
net stop "Protected Storage"
net stop "Server"
net stop "Shell Hardware Detection"
net stop "System Event Notification"
net stop "System Restore Service"
net stop "Task Scheduler"
net stop "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper"
net stop "Themes"
net stop "Upload Manager"
net stop "WebClient"
net stop "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)"
net stop "Windows Management Instrumentation"
net stop "System Event Notification"
net stop "COM+ Event System"
net stop "Network Location Awareness (NLA)"
net stop "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager"
